Hooray, my first post on Icthyes…it’s just a shame it’s not with better news. Although the budget of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) has increased in the latest spending review, it’s not going to be enough to cover the increased cost of some large-scale Physics research, such as the Diamond Synchrotron in Oxfordshire.

Needless to say this is all pretty depressing. How are we supposed to stay a world leader in science and technology when we spend all our money on wars, etc, when we could be funding more research…? *sigh*
